Equestrian Village

History of Black Prong

Black Prong Equestrian Village was created in May 2019 after Florida horseman and entrepreneur Reid Nagle and his wife Sarah purchased the Center on March 16th, 2019 and assumed daily operations on May 1st, 2019.

Black Prong Equestrian Center was founded in the early 2000’s by Alan and Maureen Aulson. They started the facility as a location that would provide combined drivers a place to visit and train their horses during the winter. That vision quickly evolved to incorporate newly built barns and apartments along with an RV park for many other events outside of combined driving. The facility now hosts herding dog trials, multiple dog shows, and other trail riding and endurance competitions throughout the year.

When Reid and Sarah purchased the center they wanted to continue Alan and Maureen’s vision, keeping Black Prong equestrian-focused with an emphasis on accommodating guests and horses that would take advantage of the 53,000 acre Goethe State Forest which surrounds the Village. With this in mind and after much thought the center was renamed “Black Prong Equestrian Village” with Clayton Bratcher appointed ‘Mayor’. The intent was to develop a unique name that would encompass the overall clientele and the initiative of making the facility a destination that equestrian and outdoor enthusiasts could call “home”, whether it’s for a few months or year-round.

A horseman’s heaven

Black Prong is named after a creek in the adjacent 53,000 acre Goethe State Forest bearing the same name. A “prong” is a fork of a creek, and the tannic acid produced from the area's lush vegetation makes the water appear black.

Every aspect of Black Prong Equestrian Village is designed with horses and nature enthusiasts in mind. From the moment you arrive, you and your horse will feel at home. Come experience the convenience, camaraderie, and comfort of this one-of-a-kind private equestrian riding and training facility, and discover for yourself why our guests call Black Prong “A horseman’s heaven”.
